James Dondero, President

James (Jim) Dondero is the president of NexPoint Advisors, L.P. and is co-founder and president of Highland Capital Management, L.P., an alternative asset manager specializing in high-yield fixed income investments. Highland Capital Management, L.P. is an affiliate advisor of NexPoint Advisors, L.P.

Mr. Dondero has over 30 years of experience in the credit markets. Prior to founding Highland in 1993, he served as chief investment officer of Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary and helped grow the business from concept to over $2 billion between 1989 and 1993. His portfolio management experience includes mortgage-backed securities, investment grade corporates, leveraged bank loans, high-yield bonds, emerging market debt, real estate, derivatives, preferred stocks and common stocks. From 1985 to 1989, Jim Dondero was a corporate bond analyst and later a portfolio manager at American Express, where he managed approximately $1 billion in fixed income funds.

James Dondero received a BS in accounting and finance from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce. Mr. Dondero is a Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) and has received certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Mr. Dondero is the chairman and president of NexPoint Residential Trust, Inc. (NYSE:NXRT). Mr. Dondero also serves as chairman of the Cornerstone Healthcare Group Holding, Inc., CCS Medical, Inc. and NexBank Capital, Inc. boards. Additionally, he is on the boards of directors for Jernigan Capital, Inc. (NYSE:JCAP), and MGM Holdings, Inc. and is on the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business Executive Board.

Mr. Dondero is involved in a number of philanthropic activities, actively supporting initiatives in education, veterans’ affairs, public policy, and the Dallas community.
